The ultra modern redevelopment of Brindley Place
Many visitors to Birmingham arrive to go to one of the many conferences or Exhibitions held at either the International Convention Centre, or the National Exhibition Centre.
There are many other places worth exploring. During the industrial revolution, as the importance of Birmingham grew, the canals became a great feature of the area. These have been extensively refurbished, as part of a massive urban regeneration programme. The centre of the city, and especially the area around the Canals Gas Street Basin, has become a popular attraction and abounds with bars and restaurants.
The Jewelry Quarter is ten minutes walk from the city centre and a fascinating area to visit and explore. It is a rich source of industrial architecture and an increasingly important visitor attraction. Famous for jewelry for some 200 years, this area has some fascinating buildings and excellent shops.
Birmingham is home to the National Sealife Centre which is described as the largest Sealife Centre in Europe, and also the only inland one! (perhaps there is a reason for that!) The sealife centre is just off Brindley Place.
